Policy on the Use of Generative AI

Pando Public Relations is a human-first organization meaning that the assets, writing, strategy and execution of activities on behalf of our clients are all performed by a human. We recognize the ability for AI to bring operational efficiencies to our work, so there may be limited applications of generative AI within our organization. This document outlines our policy with respect to the ethical and professional use of generative AI technologies in our work.

Definitions and Terms as They Apply to this Policy

AI writing – AI writing is writing with the aid of generative AI tools like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, or Perplexity AI

Generative AI – Generative AI is an artificial intelligence tool that when given inputs – a prompt – can generate writing, data, images, and computer code. Generative AI tools in writing are based on Large Language Models (LLMs).

Content Creation – Content creation is the process of developing content that is used in public relations efforts including thought leadership, bylines, articles, press releases, case studies, white papers, etc..

Human-first – Pando Public Relations commits itself to the work of a team of uniquely qualified specialists in public relations in K-12 and higher education as well as in the related fields of workforce training and development. All Pando strategies and tactics and the execution of such are performed by a human being.

Pando PR’s Limited Use of Generative AI

Pando Public Relations does use generative AI in limited ways to ideate during the brainstorming process but not in writing articles, press releases, pitches, and similar.

Ways we do NOT use AI:

  • to create graphics, or supplementary resources that accompany our pitches and content
  • to automate processes like sending batches of press releases or pitches to large (or small) groups of people for such things are never effective and only clog inboxes
  • to create media lists because doing so requires very distinct human thoughtfulness and personal knowledge about the space combined with either knowing the reporter’s past writing or taking the time to investigate it thoroughly before pitching.
  • to ensure documents are error-free because so far, we’ve not found anything that is perfect all of the time

Ways we might use generative AI:

  • brainstorm titles that fit into a specific word count after we have supplied several options of our own
  • To produce more relevant internet search results such as issuing prompts like the following:
    • “Give me 5 ways a teacher might use openers for a lesson about space for 5th graders.”
    • “Give me a list of five compelling topics to write about for IT staff at large school districts.”
  • to create a first draft of a social post for Twitter or LinkedIn based on an article we wrote and loaded into the generator, which are then edited and usually substantially altered by a Pando PR team member
  • to review an article the Pando PR team member wrote but felt had a hole and wanted a second opinion on what might have been overlooked
  • to create a transcript of audio/video used entirely for internal purposes to make our team more efficient

We do not always know when some of the technology we are using might have AI enabled processes but will do our best to ascertain to what extent AI is being used.

We welcome comments, questions, or queries about Pando PR’s ethical and transparent use of generative AI and other artificial intelligence tools.
