Thank you so much for joining us in this interview series. Before we dive into our discussion our readers would love to “get to know you” a bit better. Can you share with us the backstory about what brought you to your specific career path?
I met Bradley Emi, my eventual co-founder of Pangram, at Stanford, where we were both studying machine learning and artificial intelligence.
After graduation, he went to work at Tesla and I worked at Google. At these jobs, we worked on applications for AI in real-world settings and started asking ourselves how could we best apply our skills with AI towards something that is positive and builds human potential rather than draws away from human potential?
Together, we began thinking deeply about using AI to really take apart automated writing or AI-created text. Being able to do this with fidelity was possible and growing more important every day. This idea would have application in combating fraud, spotting deepfakes, addressing misinformation, and protecting the value of a formal education by making it harder to improperly use AI systems on academic work.
So, Bradley and I started Pangram, the best, most accurate, most advanced AI alert system possible. Today, we’re helping companies spot spammy and fraudulent AI-created content. Educators in K-12 and higher education are also using Pangram to help teachers and schools create and enforce sound policies around AI use in the classroom — while continually raising awareness that AI detection is accurate and reliable. That’s how we got here.
